Number 64 from an edition of 100 copies signed and numbered inside the lid.

When we first met Billy in 2004 we helped him to sell these sets of books, the last to be published by him as Hangman Books. It's a beautifully produced set of cloth bound hardbacks with both the books and the box signed with his full name (he started signing with his gallows symbol in about 2005/6).

The painting on the lid is one of several motifs he used for the set. There were probably about 30 made of each one, but all properly painted and unique. He used acrylic rather than oils as he needed them to dry quickly so he could pile them up.

With Billy's paintings now being bought by major collections around the world, this kind of painted edition is by far the most accessible way of owning one.

We continued this tradition of special artist books and box sets when we started making our own editions as the aquarium and later as L-13.

Keep checking back on the L-13 Rejects and Rarities Dept as we'll be adding more early painted books and editions as we uncover them in the archive.

NB: If you do purchase this set or something similar we do not recommend or approve of cutting out the painting and having it framed. By all means put the books on your shelf and frame the whole box, but keep the set together. Breaking the set degrades the artists original intention and devalues its meaning and place in the world.
