The Hurdy Stone was stood in the grounds of Rattle
& Brash, Stroud on 1st May 2026, for the opening of NeoAncients Festival. The cosmologically charged ceremony was led by High Priestess Tree Carr, with heavy plant machinery operated by Sparrow Crane Hire, blessings by The Museum of Roadside Magic’s Steering Coven, and witnessed by a crowd of curious bystanders
processed to the site by Johnny Fluffypunk. The monolith was then encoded with sound using the experimental LunaTronix system and the witnesses invited to put an ear to it and listen.
This was the second monolith to be raised by The Standing
Stones, a band formed by Jimmy Cauty and Jem Finer. The Stones draw on influences from early music technologies, trad folk, and electronic dance music, creating soundscapes steeped in deep time & universal wyrdness.
