Archive Annotations: Jimmy Cauty Postal Strike Scab Stamp

NOTE:
Archive Annotations are a series of sporadic and incomplete anecdotes regarding past L-13 releases, oddities and rejects which are dug up from the vaults to be paraded about and subsequently DISPOSED OF via the archive section of the site shop.
Usually these are unique items, limited numbers from a long sold-out edition or unreleased experiments.
Once they are sold and their fate is sealed in a private collection these annotations will remain as reference to their existence.

JAMES CAUTY DESIGN SOLUTIONS (UK) Ltd
Postal Strike Scab Stamp (1st Class) on addressed envelope, framed
2009

30 x 37 cm with frame

Jimmy made these ’Scab’ stamps in support of the 2009 dispute over job security for postal workers. It was claimed that 30,000 stamps were made and sent on postcards to the Royal Mail CEO Adam Crozier.

In reality it was slightly less than that, but the action resulted in L-13 receiving a 21 page ‘cease and desist’ letter form the RM’s lawyers telling us to stop abusing RM intellectual property or face ruin.

This in turn resulted in a mind bending letter back from us explaining our position based on semantics and freedom of expression. Nothing has been heard from the Royal Mail since.

Only a handful of these cards were kept. Unless Adam Crozier kept all his to sell on eBay this is a very very scarce item.

Comes with a copy of our letter to the RM legal department and a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jimmy Cauty.

Only one available.

Check availability in the archive section of the L-13 shop.
