Every brick in The People’s Pyramid contains a portion of an individual’s bones.
Each brick represents a real life. We take The People’s Pyramid as seriously as we take life and death. Art is no joke, this memorial is not a joke. The rituals that are forming around The Toxteth Day of the Dead are original, not pastiches of other cultures.
Covid-19 has devastated our everyday lives and changed the world for ever. It has robbed families of happy times they should have had with their parents and grandparents, kin and friends, and Liverpool has been struck particularly hard by this virus.
We always wanted The People’s Pyramid to become a focal point for all of our deaths, all of our grief, we had no idea that a virus would make all of this so immediately universal.
So in the spirit of shared sorrow, we offer free MuMufucation to anyone who has died from Covid-19, not just in Toxteth, but anywhere. We hope that in doing this, everyone can experience the big heartedness of Liverpool, the shared solidarity of sadness, our loving strength in the face of our mortality.
Together we will build The People’s Pyramid.
